Benching
Benching means someone keeps you "on the bench" — minimal contact, an occasional message or like — just enough that you don't disappear as an option, without any real intention of moving things forward. The term borrows from being benched in sports.
Unlike ghosting, benching never disappears completely. That ambiguity is the trap, since sporadic attention is enough to keep hope alive.
